Stella®
Italian tradition and excellence
Stella® Brand Italian-style cheeses are widely recognized by consumers and food industry professionals alike for creating supremely authentic and flavorful cheeses. The Stella® Brand has a rich heritage of cheesemaking expertise and dedication to producing fine artisan cheese since 1923—combining traditional recipes, pioneering methods and a flair for fine ingredients to create the authentic specialty cheeses available today.
Stella® Brand cheese originated with a small dairy operation in a northern Wisconsin Italian-immigrant farming community. The rolling pastures, clear waters and available high-quality milk led a community resident to create the Stella Cheese Company—today one of the largest cheese brands in the U.S. The brand’s first of many fine Italian cheese products was a buttery, nutty Parmesan Cheese skillfully crafted by top cheesemakers from Italy. Many of the original Stella® Brand cheesemakers were trained formally in the preparation of Italian-style cheeses using cultures brought from Italy that are still used today.
The Stella® Brand boasts a rich Italian cheesemaking heritage, resulting in artisan-crafted cheeses that range from mild to sharp and creamy to crumbly. Saputo is proud to carry on the Stella® Brand tradition of authentic cheese recipes that are as delicious today as they were 90 years ago.
Stella® Brand produces premium cheeses perfect for plating cheese boards or for adding the accentuating flavor to the foods you prepare. You’ll find Stella® Brand cheeses in both our Pasta Filata and Specialty Cheese listings.
